Drum brakes to Disc Brakes?

I have a 2008 ford focus and the back drum brakes are fine but I think if I had disc brakes in the back I would be able to brake better and quicker. If it is possible to change them give me details please. And, if I need to pay a car parts person to do it how much do you think it would be?Drum brakes to Disc Brakes?
You can have it done for around three grand. Rotors, pads, hoses, brake cables, abs sensors, master cylinder, proportion valve.Drum brakes to Disc Brakes?
You would have to switch over to a rotor and caliper setup, so you will have to buy two rotors and two calipers plus pads and labor, the cost would vary from state to state and even city to city, but if you are stopping fine now, why change? Put your money into something else.Drum brakes to Disc Brakes?
If you really wanted to enhance your braking power a lot, you'd have to get a better suspension, and sports designed front rotors. just changing the back to disc won't help as much as this cause the front brakes do most of the work. and if you make the rear brakes too aggressive, the tires will just skid.Drum brakes to Disc Brakes?
You can switch them out. Disk brakes require 2psi back pressure and drum need 10psi. You will need a regulator or a new master cylinder to do it. It will not be cheap!Drum brakes to Disc Brakes?
the conventional (service brake) supplies 80% of the power to the front wheels. so i dont believe swtiching to read disc will hepl you the way you think it will. switch to cross drilled or slotted rotors and creamic shoes. its cheaper and it will suprisingly decrease you stopping distanceDrum brakes to Disc Brakes?
I think it is not a good idea to exchange the brake due to these days they built with anti block brake system, it may not work right after you change it, but you still can do it by to buy the whole disc brake assembly from the dealer parts dept., make sure you have the axle brake mount with 2 bolt threaded ready for disc brake, I believe if you do it yourself with parts estimate roughly $1,500.00 and if dealer do for you is around $3,000.00Drum brakes to Disc Brakes?
Yes you would get considerably more braking power. Check the internet in such places as JC Whitney. For the inexperienced or shadetree mechanic, they make a complete conversion kit that supplies everything needed part and detailed instructions to get it done.Drum brakes to Disc Brakes?
Really its not worth it, you will not notice any difference if any, in stopping power, majority breaking power is in the front. The ratio is about 70% front and 30% in the back,Unless your vechicle has a heavy load in the back its pointless ,when you have more than enough braking force in the rear with drums for that compact size of a car.If it was necisary all cars would have 4 wheel disc, but its not, only the front two are required.
